The typical answer is: It depends Can you provide more information about your workload and table definitions? Is it OLTP or DSS. For DSS I prefer more CPUs. Are your tables fragmented? If so, how many dbspaces are used for your largest or highest activity tables? More CPUs allow more parallelism. However, Art Kagel suggests that 450 MHz CPUs are fast enough to support 2 CPU VP's each.
