With CGI-Bin scripts, you have a lot of overhead. This means slow response time. Every hit requires a new connection to the database, also a loss of state. Even those at Informix realize this and have written their web kit to deal with this. I assume, since I have not yet seen specs on their Web Datablade, to do the same. Oracle took the solution of creating their own HTTPD server. Other solutions include: Net Fusion or Web Objects from NeXT/Apple. These solutions along with Informix requires that a HTTPD server exits. You really should check out Web Objects. While there are some limitations, the really nice thing is that you can create simple sites with little or no code, use java, and connect to any ODBC database, Informix, Oracle and even Sybase. I would recommend a combination of Netscape's proxy server tied to their Enterprise Server. Also consider their certificate server too. This combination works well when you want to use the internet for a low traffic intra-net. (You really can't beat the $19.95 a month connect costs. ;-) -Just a nother caffiene powered tip from your favorite uncle ;-) -- #include <std_disclaimer.h> Mike Segel (MS385) #include <No_Spam.h> The author takes no responsibility for this post.
