Informix & Log messages

Hi all,
Here's my problem - can You help?
(Sun Solaris 2.6, Informix Dynamic Server 7.31UC4-1
-) Most of the time I see in my logfile:
Checkpoint completed: duration was 0 seconds.
Checkpoint completed: duration was 0 seconds.
Checkpoint completed: duration was 0 seconds.
Checkpoint completed: duration was 0 seconds.
Checkpoint completed: duration was 0 seconds.
(...)
It's 90% of the overall info and it's waste
of paper (logs are printed)
How to turn it off?
-)
Ther's somthing like this in the "onconfig" configuration file:
MSGPATH /usr/informix/online.log # System message log file path
CONSOLE /dev/console # System console message path
How to redirect logs in yet another place?
I'd like to send logs to the remote server or remote printer (real-time)
TIA
Arthur
You can't get rid of them. However, you can write a script to print
them. Something like 'grep -v "Checkpoint completed" | lp -d <device>'.
To put them on a different machine, you can make an NFS mount to that
machine and change the MSGPATH to the filesystem you created. I think
you'll have to bounce the server for this to go into effect. If you
want the logs in BOTH places, you'll have to write a script that copies
the logs, I would think. This log doesn't work like the syslog.
I don't know of any way to send data to the printer in real time.

Can't. Use grep -v to remove these lines when printing the message log.
How often is this message printed to the log? What is the value of the
ONCONFIG parameter CKPTINTVL (this could be greater than the ACTUAL
interval experienced in the message log if the physical log file is
too small)? Perhaps this is really a tuning problem!

Don't do that, you will need the local on-disk copy to diagnose some
problems and for performance monitoring.

User tail -f to echo to logs to a printer live.

Pls check inserts.
Cheers, Girish

As has been said before , a script with grep -v would help. However ,it
should be kept that way since system info should not be tampered with.

Informix does not provide such a flexibility .

A script involving rcopy ( after trusting rlogin ) can be used to run
in the background which copies online.log on to a remote server as soon
as it gets updated.
