Switch from AIX to NT???

Hi, we would like to upgrade our system and at the same time, we would like to switch from INFORMIX SE on AIX to INFORMIX Dynamic Server (Workgroup Edition) on Win NT 4 or 2000. Our applications developped in 4GL will be moved to Dynamic 4GL. The reason we would switch from AIX to Windows is that we have a Windows specialist on site and it would be easier for the maintenance. Now, I would like advise from anybody who do run INFORMIX on a windows platform. Here's a few questions: - The first part would be to access the INFORMIX DB on Windows NT with our 4GL apps on AIX. Is it possible? - With 4GL on AIX, we telnet on the system and we run the program using "fglgo". How does the Dynamic 4GL programs are accessed? - Dows the same user can run a program more than once simultaniously? I'm pretty sure that we do, I just need to confirm. - How does the installation goes? - How stable is the DB onWindows? - Does the Dynamic Server requires a lot of maintenance? Thanks and feel free to add anything else. Marc Beauvais mbeauvais@wbn.ca
Hi, actually, I didn't want to start a debate to know witch OS is the best one? Anyways, I think that this is a very personal opinion depending on past experience. If somebody uses INFORMIX on NT, can you please let me know how good it works? Can I consider it? Don't do that ! On AIX you can write easily scripts for DB Admin and AIX is much more stable than NT. I work as system engineer for AIX and NT. Probably, you look for 4J at www.4js.com. They developed dynamic 4GL. We use that under AIX and are very satisfied, because you will get new versions earlier than from Informix.
