Oops! Re: CONSTRUCT x FROM y ON z

Oops! Forgot this stuff: AIX Version 4.3.2 DB-Access Version 7.31.UC2X3 INFORMIX-4GL Version 7.20.UE1 ---------- Original (if unimaginative ) message ----------- I am working with an existing package that I don't want to do extensive rewrites on. What I am trying to do is bypass certain fields depending on how other fields are populated. The construct is formatted as follows: construct where_part on (list of fields in a view named mms_view6 - fields are identified as mms_view6.fieldname) from (list of field names from various tables - fields are identified as fieldname only, no tablename) I am accustomed to using before and after field clauses with input statements and (a little) in construct by name. I am not very familiar with views. The problem I am running into is that the program will not compile with test references to field names in either of the following formats: mms_view6.fieldname or fieldname I CAN use either format in the before or after field statements themselves: before field resource_type generates no complaints, but when I reference within a case statement or an if statement: when resource_type is null or when mms_view.resource_type is null (or substitute 'if' for 'when' in either of the above) both fail with the following errors respectively: The symbol "resource_type" does not represent a defined variable. The symbol "mms_view6" does not represent a defined variable. Maybe I'm just tired and not seeing the obvious, but I think it's my lack of experience with views and/or the syntax of the construct statement (as opposed to construct by name). -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Carlos Benjamin, Jr. (623) 869 - 2364 Programmer/Analyst/Consultant Currently Assigned to Central Arizona Project mailto:inf999@cap-az.com -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
