I think it should be impossible.
Why?
To create a synonym between to OnLine databases, the two databases must
have exactly the same level of logging (eg, both buffered log, or
unbuffered log, or both mode ansi, or both unlogged). If you don't have
the same logging level, you get an error. In fact, if you even try to
SELECT data from a table in a database with different logging, you get anerror such as "-568: Cannot reference an external database without logging"
(from a logged database, referencing a table in an unlogged database).
What OnLine logging level corresponds to each of the SE logging levels?
There is no correspondence between the logging levels, even unlogged,
because there are things which OnLine can handle which SE cannot (such
as rolling back DDL statements), and there are differences in the way
they handle constraint checking.
Consequently, you cannot create synonyms between OnLine and SE.
However, with 6.00 and above, you can use multiple connections, one to an
SE database and to OnLine. Of course, this is not the same as providing a
synonym, but a single program can access the data from two disparate
databases.
