Informix 7.20 + jdbc + locale

I try to make jdbc connection to database (Informix 7.30, SCO Unix) which have no jdk supported encoding, so my java application terminates with error: "encoding or code set not supported". How can I enforce jdbc driver to ignore code set translation (and this way make it not to close the connection)? I just want to get some integer data from database. Database's encoding/locale (on server) must not be changed (it must be like it is, unfortunately jdk not supported), I may play only with jdbc driver and my java app. I tried to use DB_LOCALE and CLIENT_LOCALE, but with no good result.
