Index Rebuild

Is there a way to determine if an index would be a good candidate to be rebuilt, for example, on a table that has a very large number of inserts and deletes? In a case like this, would dropping and recreating an index make it more efficient? Thanks for your thoughts ... You can compute how deep the btree should be and then compare it to what is reported in sysindexes. cheers j. -----Original Message----- From: ids-bounces@iiug.org [mailto:ids-bounces@iiug.org]On Behalf Of Mary Gregory Sent: Friday, May 19, 2006 2:33 PM To: ids@iiug.org Subject: Index Rebuild [6782] Is there a way to determine if an index would be a good candidate to be rebuilt, for example, on a table that has a very large number of inserts and deletes? oncheck -pT will tell you the number of full & partially full index pages. Ifthere are a preponderence of partially full pages that index may benefit from a
reorg. Also if there are many outstanding btree cleaner requests for an index
(onstat -C and lookup the partnum in sysmaster:systabnames or use the
sysmaster:sysbtcreq and join that to systabnames by partnum).
