updating fields that are part of an index
Posted in 1999
I a little stumped. We're running 7.30.UC5 on a Sun E/4000. I've
written a small 4gl program that updates (changes) the value of a field
that is part of a unique index on the table. Everything appears to run
fine. But if I go back in and run a select on the new value, it
returns no rows. To make matters worse, if I run a select choosing the
old value in the where clause, it returns the row, but the row show's
the new value (not the value in my where clause).
OK - so now it's obvious that my data and index are out of sync. If I
drop/create the index everything is wonderful. My question is how can
this get out of sync so easily - it's a little un-nerving. Before
dropping the index I ran oncheck on the tablespace data rows and
indexes - showing no problems.
Any clues out there. Thanks in advance.
