I want to install Informix on my Redhat 6.2 Linux.... I've done it several times, but can't get it all right at the same time. I want to run informix on my Linux box, and connect to it from my Windoze box. I have downloaded IDS730UC10.rpm, and CSDK240_UC1_linux.rpm Which do I install first... The way I under stand it, CSDK has the ESQL files in it.... I have all my env-variables set. Please instruct as to the order of install... I keep getting errors like "cannot find clientsdkcontent file"... Thanks, Greg

So you'll need to install IDS on the Linux box (you don't need CSDK for the Windows side to connect to it), and then you have to configure a server, including ensuring that you have it listening for network connection attempts from the PC. > I have downloaded IDS730UC10.rpm, and CSDK240_UC1_linux.rpm > > Which do I install first... After you've extracted stuff from the RPM files, you have to run the Informix-style install scripts (AFAIK, and IIRC). A mighty pain it is too. I have CSDK 2.40 on my Linux box. The RPM file lists the files separately (rpm -qlp csdk-rpm-file), just the way you'd hope an RPM file would, rather than messing with clientsdkcontent.tar the way the earlier versions. But, installclientsdk does still seem to mention clientsdkcontent file. I installed this way back (2000-02-15), and I've forgotten what I had to do to get it to work, if anything. Look in the installclientsdk script...there's a line that reads: if test `uname` != Linux then echo "Extracting ... If your version of Linux doesn't say "Linux", that would trigger the problem. If that won't do it, then try running 'bash -x installclientsdk' and trapping both the stdout and stderr information: bash -x installclientsdk 2>&1 | tee csdk.log You can look through that and see what is causing the trouble -- though it may be tough going. -- Yours, Jonathan Leffler (Jonathan.Leffler@Informix.com) #include <disclaimer.h> Guardian of DBD::Informix v1.00.PC1 -- http://www.perl.com/CPAN "I don't suffer from insanity; I enjoy every minute of it!"
