A new Informix user on IDS 10.00.TC3TL for Windows got error -229 "Could not open or create a temporary file" on every query, and also saw -387 "no connect permission" messages in the onsnmp log. Respondents explained the two errors are unrelated (the -387 entries come from the SNMP agent/ondbtb trying to open a database it lacks rights to, or a non-existent database), and suggested checking DBTEMP/TMP/TEMP (set via setnet32 on Windows), whether any temp dbspaces exist in the onconfig, and disk space/permissions. Hi, What version ? What is the value of your INFORMIXTMP environment var ? Is there any temp DBS in onconfig ? The -387 error has nothing to do with the -229, maybe somebody is connecting to a database as a user who has no connect permission. Hi Guillermo, Use the finderr.exe program (Start\\\\Program\\\\IBM Informix\\\\Informix Dynami= c Server...\\\\Informix Error Messages) to have a description of your return= code. For Error Code -229 : Could not open or create a temporary file. The database server cannot create a temporary disk file. The file shoul= d be created in the directory that the DBTEMP environment variable specifies= (or /tmp by default on UNIX systems). Check the accompanying ISAM error cod= e and look for operating-system error messages that might give more information. Possibly your account does not have write permission in th= at directory, or the disk is full. Since Version 5.01, the IBM Informix SE= database server uses the DBTEMP environment variable, but IBM Informix Dynamic Server and IBM Informix OnLine Dynamic Server do not. On a UNIX system, try increasing the maximum number of open files (NFIL= ES parameter on some systems) to approximately 400. For Error Code -387 in onsnmp_ol_sdsnet.log file : No connect permission. You cannot access the database that this statement requests because you= have not been granted CONNECT privilege to it. Contact a person who has= Database Administrator privilege to that database and ask to be granted= CONNECT privileges to it. I think there is no relation between these two errors. On Windows, I'm not sure that IDS uses c:\\\\tmp directory. Look at DBTEMP= , TMP or TEMP environment variables. Regards. The messages you see in that log file say that some session, out of the application in ondbtb.ec, tried to open a database named 'esqlOpenDbTables' which does not exist in that instance (ol_sdesnet). Hi, I am not sure about windows installations, but I think the settings are set using setnet32 there. In Unxes informix reacts upon environment vars.
