Did anyone listen in to that conferance call the other week?

I don't have the details ... but it was on Eric's InformixZone site. I had a bit of trouble getting connected since the registration emails didn't mention a password. (ibm). Silly me, I should have known that.... NOT! Ok, I was wondering if anyone listened to the presenter in hole or if there's a playback of his webcast. Also I did get to hear one piece towards the end. It was interesting in that it reflected some things we've been talking about for the past couple of years. The role of a DBA as a nutz and boltz kind of guy who keeps the engine up and runnning is going to be a thing of the past. That is, being the 'worlds fastest DBA' where the speed gains came from modifying the tuning parameters will be a thing of the past. Tuning will become more of an art on changing table layouts, indexing, clustering, fragmentation strategies. Ok, so that's only a couple of hours of work. So what's the IDS DBA to do for the rest of the month? ;-) The point Boys and Girls... do you see the DBA becoming an Information Architect, or a Security specialist? Or getting in to the Data Architect and more programming role? Interestingly enough... these types of switches moves one to a more database agnostic role, until you have to deal with the differences between databases like temp tables. ;-) -G _________________________________________________________________ Windows Live: Keep your friends up to date with what you do online. http://windowslive.com/Campaign/SocialNetworking?ocid=PID23285::T:WLMTAGL:ON:WL:en-US:SI_SB_online:082009
