The old Guide was specific to 5.XX, and I'll be updating it >for 7.XX (maybe even XPS if there's interest). > Yes - include XPS. >My question for this newsgroup, which is my number one source of info >about what's really going on is: > > What do I need to put in it? > >For all of you who have been so nice and so supportive of the first project, >what do you want to see? My initial plan is to come out with a second edition A good clear guide on how to setup ODBC connectivity especially the server side. I know it's already in the manuals but I keep seeing this popping up. Include better error descriptions E.g. error -25574 appears a lot - a good description on how to fix it would help. Include code in the floppy in the back which checks a configuration for a given local instance. i.e. Pass it a server name and it parses sqlhosts, /etc/services, does DNS lookups for the hosts listed. Not I've got my Linux box back together again I may well write this. I'ts quite hard to matchup servernames/services/hosts. >that covers both 5.XX and 7.XX. Is that reasonable, or would you like a >separate book for 7.XX? I know the first book was very weak on I-Net One that covers 7 separately unless I get a free copy for helping you!!! >(I didn't understand it then) and that I need some more illustrations, so A cghapter on I-Net/ODBC i.e. configuring connectivity from the PC end would help, include example of the latest version of most ODBC drivers E.g. SQL Retreiver etc. >those items will get into the book. I'm also planning to talk more >about debugging and performance-tuning ESQL/C applications. (for those Sounds good. >of you who may remember this far back, I'll also revise references >to "secondary chunks" <g> ) Wondered what they were !! > >I'd appreciate any input from you, either by e-mail or by posting here. > >Thanks for your continuing support! > >Joe "Back to the Grindstone" Lumbley Thanks for the first book - it's on the shelf next to me at the moment.
