Hi my rootdbs is 100.000 kb. (Engine: Online 5.1, yes really!). In the tbconfig there is the entry ROOTSIZE 100000. Now, i will increase the size to 200.000 kb with an second chunk, because we have problems running big querys with havy sorts in it. (online says: not enough space for bla...) Question: Must i increase the value of ROOTSIZE to 200000 in the tbconfig after i've added the 2.nd chunk ? tks Andreas
Hi Andreas,
it´s not necessary. This Parameter is only used, when you initialize the
database with "oninit -i" for the first time.

As Erik and Obnoxio say, no you don't. Also note that, if big sorts are the only problem, OL5.xx also supports the PSORT_DBTEMP and PSORT_NPROCS to perform sorting in parallel (PSORT_NPROCS tasks) using a list of file systems in PSORT_DBTEMP. This is faster than the internal single task sort and for temp files like the sort-work files filesystem space is usually faster than RAW disk since the files are quickly re-read from the system buffer cache without flushing the Informix cache and deleted often before any real I/O has occurred.
