That way you can fire off the query from within Excel without having to leave your sheet. You could even having it programmed into a macro. To do this you'd need an assortment of bits and pieces, eg and ODBC driver for Informix. Companies like Q+E and Visionware supply these (both of which have recently been discussed here and doubtless will be again). The simple but ungraceful way is to unload the data you need with tabs as delimiters and use something like FTP to get it onto the PC. Soooo.... 1) On the OnLine box, set the DBDELIMITER environment variable to <tab>. 2) Run the SQL statement UNLOAD TO "filename.txt" SELECT xxx FROM yyy WHERE zzz 3) Copy filename.txt to the PC using FTP or some such. 4) Start Excel and open filename.txt. As long as it's tab delimited your data will magically appear as a sheet. akent@cix.compulink.co.uk (Andy Kent) -------------------------------------
