To backup informix you use and informix backup like ontape. To get
and understanding of this you need to read the backup and archive
manual and it explains how to do this.
If you do take the database offline and dump the raw partitions you
can not roll foward the logs. Informix does not work like oracle.
Informix will also not insure data consistency if you do a backup this
way.
Informix builtin easy backup tool that can be ran online without any
interuption in service to the user.
Get the manuals and read about ontape. I would not tackle the
onarchive feature if you are this new at Informix. Onarchive is not a
user friendly utility at all.
