What is the difference oninit and onmode

Hi All,
Just curious about the ff: commands:
oninit -iy - this will initialize the shared memory and disk (like fresh
setup).
oninit -s - initialize shared memory.... Does the logical logs/physicallogs/dbspaces will be removed?
oninit -j - startup in Quiesent Mode (single user).
what is the "onmode -s"? switch to single user? am i right?
onmode -m -- multiuser mode
oninit -i - initialize disk structures and shared memory and start theinstance to multi-user mode.
oninit -s - initialize shared memory and start the instance up to quiescentmode. No users may connect.
oninit -j - initialize shared memory and start the instance up toadministrator mode. Only informix user is permitted to connect.
oninit <no -i, -s, or -j> - initialize shared memory and start the instance
up to multi-user mode.
onmode -s - Bring the server down gracefully (wait for transactions tocomplete) to quiescent mode.
onmode -u - Bring the server down immediately (disconnect all sessions) to
quiescent mode..
onmode -j - Bring the server down to administrator mode (optionally specifyusers besides informix who can still connect).
onmode -k - Bring the server down immediately to offline mode and destroyshared memory.
onmode -m - Bring the server up from administrator mode or quiescent mode to
multi-user mode.

Thanks Art,
I guess i better try to use "onmode -s" command to see what will happen to my
configuration once i restart the instance. I'm familiar with "oninit -i" but
"oninit -s", never tried to use that before.

If you don't look under the hood, it's kinda wierd that there's two commands
that apparently do similar things, but the key here is, oninit IS the engine,
onmode just tells it what to do
Hi,
I did try last night at home.. onmode -s, will put the engine into quiesent
mode (from online)... oninit -s, will put the engine into quiesent mode (from
offline). Thanks all for the input.
oninit -j -- will put the engine in single user mode, ONly DBSA or informixcan access.
oninit -r - for fast recovery status.
