tab and back tab

I have a simple question regarding keyboard navigation in 4GL forms. I realize that the tab key (and return key) move forward field to field, but why doesn't the back tab move to the previous field? Having a skull cramp and can't seem to figure this out.... Thanks in advance. pfrehner@praeda.com

My guess is that backtab is a PC invention and doesn't exist on dumb terminal keyboards, at least on most of mine it doesn't.
