Ontape backup/restore to disk

Hello All,
I would like to use the Informix ontape utility for both Level 0
backup/restore and transaction log backup/restore. Instead of using an
external tape device, I would like to back it up to disk (files).
Currently we are running IDS 7.31 on Sun Solaris 9 servers.
To go along with that, I would like to do a nightly ontape Level 0
backup to disk on "Server A". During the day, I would like to
continously backup the transaction logs to disk (different files) on
"Server A". Now, on "Server B", I would like to do a nightly restore
using the Level 0 backup files from "Server A" (obviously after "Server
A" has completed). Then using the transaction log files from "Server
A", continuously restore them on "Server B" during the day after they
get created from "Server A".
I know that this is a homemade "High Availability" solution. Can it be
done and is there anyone that is currently doing this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Thank You,
Dave

We are using the full version. I am relatively new on the job here and apparently they had some issues using the HDR feature. Either way, I am still wondering if this can be done. Any help would be great. --Dave In4MixDBA@gmail.com Richard Spitz wrote: > "Dave" <In4MixDBA@gmail.com> schrieb: > > >Currently we are running IDS 7.31 on Sun Solaris 9 servers. > > [...] > >I know that this is a homemade "High Availability" solution. > > What keeps you from using the builtin HDR feature? Yes this should be possible.

There was a thing called techinfo which had an article about this
using onbar
called perceptual restore or something... contact TS they may be able
to get you
the article.

There are various scripts in the IIUG software repository for using ontape
to disk, I have two variations of it and both work equally well.
