endless ODBC connections from CSDK 2.90
Posted in 2009
Good morning,
This question is a shot in the dark, but is there any setting in the Windows
version of the CSDK 2.90 (or higher) ODBC driver or DSN that I can have the
connection close the database connection after certain amount of idle-time?
The reason why I'm asking, I have several Windows Servers that connect to my
Informix IDS 10.00 engine over ODBC, but maintain continuous connection to the
database. This can be a problem for me because memory is committed to those
connections until the connection is release by the ODBC client, the Windows
server in this case.
Is there some kind of Windows environment variable, Registry setting, or CSDK
ODBC driver ini file setting that I can tell CSDK to disconnect from the
Informix Server after so many minutes? Or after not more SQL jobs are being
submitted to the IDS engine?
I can write a cron that will forcibly kill Informix sessions to the engine
using 'onmode -z', but there no guarantee that I wouldn't be killing-off a
legitimate connection currently running an SQL job. It would be more
preferable if I could get the ODBC client to close the DB connection somehow
from the CSDK driver.
Just curious.
Thanks for any insight into this situation.
