Sort arrays by alpha

This is going to seem a bit strange, but I am just wondering if anyone out there has bothered to write the code to generate a scrolling screen array, ie. a pick from list, that allows the user to jump to different parts of the array by choosing a letter. Use 'B' to jump to the 'Bs', 'C' to jump to the 'Cs' and so on. We have the need for such a module, and I intend to write it, but if anyone else already has, perhaps you can give me some pointers. I realize that I cannot use the default Informix array handling functions, they do not give you any control over the array pointer, so I will probably write something similar to the pick list used in Dave Snyder's db4glgen.
