RE: What do you call a DBA who ..

Short version: I had to replace the root drive due to size limitations. When We came back up, the database was slower than on the old drive. We couldn't figure out why. I spent longer than I care to admit looking into issues with the new 9GB drive. Then in San Diego I went to the tuning session, and they mentioned: "Make sure your links point to the character special file and not the block special..." It immediately dawned on me what I had done. The day I got back from the conference I got numerous calls saying the system was running faster than ever. Live and learn. At least I have a solid case to attend the conference every year, a 15-20% performance boost is hard to argue with :) -----Original Message----- From: Art S. Read my numerous spouts on the subject of RAW DEVICE -vs- COOKED DEVICE -vs- COOKED FILE performance in the IIUG Archive of CDI. There should have been a few this year. Art S.
