The nature of any free-to-join organisation is that no-one ever bothers ever to rescind membership. There's any number of sites I've registered with down the years, and visited that one time to read an article in which I was interested or something. No doubt they would count me as a subscriber, but I'm not an active one. So I'd like to see the IIUG directorate stop trundling out this statistic, as it doesn't really tell us anything about the *active* membership, and for that reason is too easy to nullify.
