Yes, you are correct. We upgraded from 7.13 to 7.22 the same way. You
have to start by bring them both to standard mode ( in any order ), do
the upgrade independently and then proceed as if you were starting
data replication for the first time, ie with a level 0 backup. A
couple of words of caution though,
1. On the secondary server, when you do an onmode -d standard, do not
assume that everything is ok once the onmode command comes back to the
prompt. Check to see if your chunks and dbspaces are consistent/open
and also wait for all logical recovery to be complete ( check both
online.log(s) ). According to Informix, onmode -d standard may have a
problem and if you bring down your engine too soon after this
operation, you may be left with inconsistent chunks. So, patience is
the name of the game. Trust me, I was burned twice.
2. Take a fresh level 0 backup after the upgrade
3. You have to do a cold restore of the secondary server.

We have a pair of AIX boxes running On-Line 7.20, doing High Availability
Data Replication. We are looking at upgrading to 7.23. I've read through
the Migration Guide, and for a single server, it looks straightforward.
However, it didn't mention replication anywhere. Has anyone done this
before? What steps are needed to do this cleanly? I know both boxes have
to have the same version of On-Line, so I am assuming I have to take them
both down and upgrade them both before bringing them back up. Any help
would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
