Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
Wolfgang Kluge could not connect Windows clients by ODBC to Informix Dynamic Server 7.3 on Linux; the session showed in onstat -u but the client hung. Reinhard Habichtsberg advised not naming the service sqlexec, using a unique service name and port in /etc/services on both machines, and checking onstat -g ses. Massimiliano Panella advised client-side setup. Unresolved.

hi,...
i got big problems to connect to informix dynamic server 7.3(linux edition)
via odbc
when i connect to the database with php3 on same machine, there is no
problem....
i want to connect from Win-clients (98/nt) to my informix database(installed
on suse linux)
when i try to connect, in onstat -u there is my name listed, but the program
on windows hangs
(can not move or close...)
the flags are set to Y--P--- (Y -- Waiting on a condition, P -- prepared for
commit)
environment-variables:
INFORMIXDIR=/opt/informix
INFORMIXSERVER=linux_ipc
ONCONFIG=onconfig
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/opt(informix/lib:/opt/informix/lib/esql
etc/onconfig:
DBSERVERNAME linux_ipc
DBSERVERALIASES linux_soc
NETTYPE ipcshm,1,100,NET
NETTYPE onsoctcp,1,100,CPU
etc/sqlhosts:
linux_ipc onipcshm linux linux_ipc
linux_soc onsoctcp linux sqlexec
/etc/services:
sqlexec 1526/tcp
/etc/hosts:
127.0.0.1 localhost
192.168.164.54 linux.master linux
in one of all the HowTo's, there was a chapter which descibes, how to allow
romote connections,...
they write something bout $INFORMIXDIR/lib/sqlexec and
$INFORMIXDIR/lib/sqlexecd...
but i do not have them......
perhaps this is my problem....where can i get these files(and some more)...
i searched at informix and intraware, but i found nothing...
thanks

Have a look at the entries in /etc/services and
C:\\winnt\\system32\\drivers and sqlhosts

I would not name the service for linux_soc sqlexec. May be it is
reserved.
Give him a name like linux_tcp and add a unique port number
in /etc/services and the services File on NT:
linux_tcp 6001/tcp # online Netzwerk
BTW: With onstat -g ses sessionid you will see more about the tread
possible the sql error

Locale machine on win98 need know
informixdir like c:\\progdir\\informix
informixserver=linux_ipc
hostname = linux.master
NOTE : informixserver usually is <> from hostname
u must know informixserver when choose db from dbaccess
u can see
informixserver@your_dbname

the services file on your client must have the same service
