Job: Sr. DBA in Washington, DC

BTG, Inc., headquartered in Fairfax, VA, seeks a senior Informix DBA to provide technical support services for development projects onsite at the Administrative Office of the US Courts in downtown Washington, DC directly across the street from Union Station subway and train stop. In general, DBA will assist in establishing guidelines, standards, and procedures in the development and deployment of Informix databases and products. The candidate is expected to be well versed in all aspects of using IDS: installation, configuration, upgrade, tuning, backup AND recovery (onbar), data migration utilities (onunload/ onload, dbexport/dbimport, HPL), replication server, use of blobs, shell scripting (NO C-SHELL!), stored procedures, triggers, complex SQL queries, and relational database design (to 3rd normal form). Development platform is Solaris 7 on Intel; database is Informix Dynamic Server 7.31. AppDev tools include Perl, C, esql/c and Java. Specific duties: Addressing physical database design issues that affect performance, such as indexing and fragmentation strategies; Designing, testing an implementing stored procedures and triggers; Capacity planning for applications; Developing scripts to install Informix databases and application software in a flexible, streamlined and highly automated manner; Participating in web-development strategies for Informix-related applications; Troubleshooting and ad-hoc technical support for Informix-related issues; Developing repeatable method for migrating operations from the predecessor legacy application to the Informix-based application; Making recommendations for designing application database queries to maximize system performance; Using Informix HPL for migration of data converted from legacy database to Informix database; Providing expertise on replicating databases over a wide area network; Providing operational support for centrally hosted development and live databases to include continual database monitoring, tuning, and remediation; Rendering technical assistance with migration to future versions of both IDS and Sun Solaris operating system; Forwarding recommendations on technological and market developments in broader database management systems area, especially regarding Informix products.
