RAID 1+0 (RAID10) Set up three stripes of 12 mirrored pairs of ~4.5GB drives (or larger) using an 8K or 16K stripe block size. ~50GB each then break that into 75 2GB logical devices and build your dbspaces from this. Place major tables so the load is balanced on each of the three stripes (this is easiest if the chunks assigned to a dbspace and the dbspaces used by a table are all on the same stripe set). Yes use multiple DBSPACES fragmenting larger and more active tables across multiple dbspaces and detaching indexes into separate dbspace(s). Keep the most volatile tables segregated into their own dbspace(s) so that you never have to reorg them. AVOID RAID5 like the plague for DBMS systems, except for readonly database servers not containing critical data. Place Rootdbs and logical and physical logs on disks and controllers separate from the data disks preferrably on three separate dbspaces if the data will be updated actively. Create the database IN some dbspace OTHER THAN ROOTDBS. Art S. Kagel My opinions are my own and you cannot change them! :-b
