Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
A user on IDS 9.4 found one of his databases had vanished and asked how to find information about a dropped/deleted database. No single confirmed fix is recorded, but respondents offered recovery options: restore the instance to a separate machine, roll logs forward to a point in time when the database still existed, then unload and reload the data into the original server; or (on v10) recreate an empty database and use point-in-time table-level restore, recovering systables/syscolumns first to rebuild the schema, then the user tables and indexes. Another noted that raw forensic recovery from IDS disk structures might be possible but only if acted on quickly before pages are overwritten.

Off topic but on Version 10 Point In Time Table Level Restore could be
used for a dropped table.
What about a dropped database?
If you created the database back empty could you do a PITTLR for each
table?

I assume, your other databases have been active all the time.
So a Point in Time (PIT) restore of the system is probably not an otpion
for you.
But you can restore the system to a different site, roll forward the
logs
up to a PIT where you are sure the DB exists . The unload it and reload
it
into your orginial system.

Yes! If you cannot remember the database schema
- Create an empty database with two tables that match
systables/syscolumns
- PITR back systables, syscolumns into these 2 tables
- Use these to create the other sys* tables as other table names
- PITR the other system tables
- Use these to create the schema for the other tables with no
indexes/constraints etc.
- PITR the other tables
- Use the sys* tables to crteate indexes etc.
Art Kagel,
Could do change myschema to have an option to extract the schema from
the renamed sys* tables?
Perhaps r_sys... rather than sys..???
David.

One could go looking for the (important) remainders of your database,
but that would really be detective or forensic work for someone familiar
with IDS disk structures.
Depending on the value of the lost data ... it might be worth the
efforts. And: the sooner the better of course, otherwise things will be
overwritten and lost forever.
