Informix JDBC driver

Hi all! I try to use Informix JDBC driver with jdk 1.1.8. The database has default locale setting, though in some fields are stored strings with russian (cp1251) codeset. So, i need make conversion. But with JDBC-ODBC bridge coming with Sun JDK i can use code like byte[] cv = rs.getBytes(fieldNumber); try{ String scv = new String(cv, "Cp1251"); }catch(Exception e){ System.out.print("Error"); } with Informix JDBC i can retrieve data only with methods getString and getAsciiStream which are vary bad for me, because these methods convert values in unreadable symbols.
