Need info on blobspace blobs

I need an idea of the number of customers who are using blobspace blobs as opposed to smart blobs. That is - how many customers are using BYTE/TEXT as opposed to BLOB/CLOB Also I need some idea of the impact of not having HDR support blobspace blobs.
Hello Madison, > Also I need some idea of the impact of not having HDR support blobspace > blobs. that may close the door on something to be done in the future; we may look at ER or tablespaceblobs when the time comes. We're using the byte data type to store media data from our application and have been pursuing a strategy of storing such things in the database (rather than in files) so that they can be easily selected out and replicated. We used byte and not smart blobs because it replicates using HDR. We know they thrash the log a bit and are slow to delete but it's a neat solution. We would regard the loss of this functionality as bad news. It would force us to rewrite a lot of code to do separate writes to two different instances and cease upgrading in the mean time. Ben.
Ben, to avoid any misunderstanding: Madison was not asking for loss of functionality. What HDR supports and what you are making use of is replication of partition blobs (blobs that are stored in the partition of the corresponding table). These are logically logged. What Madison asked for is about blobspace blobs (blobs that are stored outside of the corresponding table in blob spaces). These do not get logically logged but are treated differently (for performance reasons). Because of not getting logically logged, blobspace blobs are not supported by HDR. For smart blobs (stored in sbspaces), logging can be switched on or off, and they get either replicated by HDR or not, depending if they are logged or not. Madisons question is about *blobspace* blobs, who is using them, and the impact of HDR not supporting them. Hi Karl, Thanks for this and enhancing my understanding of blobs which I haven't had too much experience of. I had to reread Madison's post a few times to see where the confusion had come from. Ben.
