Where've you been? We had this rant last month, and you didn't show up. :-) I agree with your assertion, however, you didn't get the Monday session, and the big picture. The folks at Informix Marketing are not knowledgeable enough about marketing Informix Linux, and are asking for our help. I'm deferring my usual rantage on this, in the interest of keeping things positive. It's going to take a while for this to sink in, but we have a really great opportunity ahead. Don't poop on it just yet. > All I intend to do, is basically ask Informix to answer several > questions, remind them of a few basic facts, and then put forth > the question to them. > > I mean, I am not an employee of Informix, and if they don't see the > potential of being the first real RDBMS on Linux, well, I don't think > that they should exist. The car salesman marketing approach we've seen on all the Informix products up to now will definitely have to end soon. The idea that slick sales wonks get involved with the customer, but have no real interest in the product other than money will not last much longer. Informix has endorsed direct-marketing, i.e. Dell, by having Mr. Dell show up as a speaker at the conference, and Phil mentioning it in his speech. Take a look at Dells' internet site, and then see the vision. I firmly believe a direct-marketing channel for Informix on Linux, and ALL Informix products will be a direction worth considering. > -Mikey > (This sounds harsh, and I will followup, but I usually get paid > for any consulting work I do.) Well I just gave you my two cents. :-) Tim Schaefer tschaefe@mindspring.com > -- > #include <std_disclaimer.h> /* Mike Segel (MS385) */ > #include <No_Spam.h> > #ifdef OFFENDED_BY_CONTENT > The author takes no responsibility for this post. > Any resembalence to a coherent rational thought is purely coincidence. > -The Management. > #endif > *****************************
