Informix is a superior product, therefore it requires less servicing/consulting..... -----Original Message----- From: owner-informix-list@iiug.iiug.org [mailto:owner-informix-list@iiug.iiug.org]On Behalf Of Ronald Cole Sent: Saturday, February 10, 2001 11:23 PM To: informix-list@iiug.org Subject: Re: Informix free "A" <trashcan@mattress.atww.org> writes: > On Sat, 10 Feb 2001 22:48:37 GMT, Joshua III <rsemail@libero.it> wrote: > : One little questions...Were i found an Informix release for Linux..free ? > > Buy it like the rest of us, tightwad. "Caveat Emptor". Sybase and Oracle are still free for Linux. Too bad that Informix has yet to understand the "Free Software" business model behind Linux (i.e. "you charge for services/consulting, but not for software"). -- Forte International, P.O. Last I checked, they weren't going to fix the PAM "bug" in 7.30 for Linux. Solution? Charge me for 9.21. 4GL-7.20 for Linux shipped with bugs, too. Solution? Charge me for 7.30. Informix also insists on me purchasing *three* copies of 4GL-7.30... Their QA sucks and they're greedy bastards to boot... So, is their Linux product selling well? -- Forte International, P.O. We've been through similar frustrations. We had version 1.0 (or maybe it was even pre-1.0) of 4GL (before it even had windows) on a Zilog Zeus system. We paid for support for a year or two before Informix admitted they had stopped porting to that system (but didn't tell us that). Basically we paid for updates that we would never get. They did end up giving us a credit for what we had paid. I haven't dealt with Informix that much lately, but when I did, it seemed as if developers (who help to sell their product) were basically treated the same as end users. I always thought that was short sighted - they should have been coddling developers to promote their products.
