Can you characterize the performance and feature set of the embedded Smart Array 5i Plus controller, as well as the supported RAID levels? A1. The embedded Smart Array 5i Plus controller will have comparable performance to the Smart Array 5302 controller and will support RAID 0, 1, 1+0, and 5 configurations on the internal drives of the ProLiant DL380 G3. The internal configuration will support up to 6 drives on one or two channels (using the two channel, or duplex, configuration would render the external SCSI port at the rear of the server useless). It is a dual channel controller with tape pass through capability. Additionally, it supports dynamic RAID migration. It is the same controller used in the ProLiant DL380 G2 upgrade kit and it is based on the Integrated Smart Array Controller technology and can be upgraded to support some of the features of the higher performance controllers, like write back cache and battery backup, required for high performance RAID of external drives. Whether the HP drivers for Solaris support the RAID10, it's there on the controller and you can always do it using a VM like Sun Disksuite or Veritas VM. Art S.
