Client Connections to Informix

I have installed my first instance of Informix 7.20 on an IBM AIX box. I then installed Informix CLI 2.50 on my Windows 95 workstation and discovered that I had to have an entry in the hosts and services files on my workstation. My next discovery was that there also had to be an entry for my machine in the /etc/hosts.equiv file on the UNIX box. Since these entries did not happen automatically with the installation of CLI how do people handle the administration of setting up many client workstations connecting to an Informix host? Not only how are you handling the configuration of client machines but also how are you handling the distribution of client software? Our clients are spread out across the State so it will be difficult to configure a machine in person. Thanks for any insight.
