datase connectivity problem

We have an application which connects from client pcs (using informix client software) to an informix database (v7.22) running on SCO unix (v5.0.4.) Recently we have noticed that once we reach 109 connections to the database any subsequent connections hang/fail to connect. It has been suggested by Informix support that this is due to an operating system kernel parameter as they say the informix side of things is configured correctly. Has anyone seen this before/can anyone suggest what the parameter might be??? Christina Southam
What type of SCO licence do you have ? Our site only allows X number of users at operating system level. You could try eliminating the client software by simply logging in to Unix 110 times via telnet or whatever and seeing if you get the same problem. If not then it surely is an Informix problem ( at either thr server or the client ). At a guess though I'd say OS.

What are your NETTYPE settings? These control the number of concurrent connections your server will be able to handle. > It has been suggested by Informix support that this is due to an operating > system kernel parameter as they say the informix side of things is > configured correctly. > > Has anyone seen this before/can anyone suggest what the parameter might > be??? NETTYPE settings are as follows
NETTYPE tlitcp,1,250,CPU
The manual I have says that 1 thread is sufficient for 5-100 users and I was
going to up it to 2 or 3 (we have a total of about 300 users who may want to
use the app - not all necessarily at the same time) but informix support
told me that 1 thread would still allow the connections and this probably
wasnt the problem. They said it was more likely to be a sco kernel param.

Thank you all for all the suggestions this problem has now been fixed by increasing the NOFILES kernel parameter which was set to 110. Christina Southam
