Re: Bug or Feature in Ace?

Joseph,
You can refer to ACE variables set on the command line or in the INPUT
section of a report in the SELECT section, and you prefix those names with
a '$'. I guess, therefore, that ACE is spotting the '$' and is neither
complaining that no variable is specified nor leaving it alone because no
variable is specified.
If this hypothesis is correct, that is a BUG. We'd need to verify it,
though. One way of doing that would be to take a hex dump of the report
(.arc) file and spot what the SQL statement looks like. I just tried this
report:
database apt end
select * from systables where tabname = '$'
end
format every row end
Using a program 'vis -s' which only prints printable characters, the output
from k.arc is:
B2aptselect * from systables where tabname = '?'
And, lo and behold, there is a '?' place-holder for a variable where I
typed '$' -- BUG! I was testing Informix-SQL 6.04.UC1 on Solaris 2.4, so
it is present in your version and in the most recent version on general
release.
Please report this to Informix Tech Support as a bug; include this email if
you like. If you do that, it is a customer bug and gets higher priority
treatment than if I enter it as an R&D bug. It won't be fixed in 6.05/4.17
because those versions are too close to release, but it might be fixed
after that.
