Employing c/s for a core business app just shifts the stress of the application from the server to the network and means that you have to have access to serious network management skills as well as everything else. Have I missed the point to c/s/gui, or what? I would really appreciate some enthusiastic debate on this, so please respond. ...... end stuff deleted .... Joining the debate, with my tuppence, Why Gui? Because it looks great! Why not? Because it implies c/s. C/S means big expense and additional complexity. If your database is not too big, SE is just fine and easy to manage. If you're doing a lot of data entry, the mouse won't help you input. If you want cheap, and simple, try RS232 connections, to a Unix host with the front-end and database server on the host. That's what we do with 16-20 users (and growing) and heavy data entry, but not online transaction processing. If you want flash, you gotsta pay the cash!
