Also sprach Nils.Myklebust@nmdata.com (Nils Myklebust) : :As to the need to restate the prices they do mention a category of 4gl :programs in the press release: "those with thousands of screens and :millions of lines of code". May be they can increase the prices? :However to reach a significant number of 4GL users they should of :course decrease the price. We'll have to wait and see. According to Informix, they have not yet finally decided on a pricing structure for Dynamic 4gl. They do consider it to be an upgrade of sorts, and to provide additional value to the product. Read this as it being likely to be somewhat more expensive than the current version. I did encourage those I spoke to to consider not setting the price so high as to prevent developers/end users from moving toward it. The appropriate parties did seem receptive to the input. As you say, we will have to wait and see (though I do so expecting somewhat higher prices than the current version of 4gl). I have no idea what 4Js is charging, so I cannot comment on that angle. I have to say that the "new" Informix, as they are touting themselves to their partners, does appear to have the desire to listen to their partners and customers, and act on what they hear. If this turns out to be more than just a passing fad, I believe there are very good days ahead for those of us involved with Informix & Informix products.
