I just switched back (today) to 7.11UC1 from 7.12UC1. I've had serious
problems with version 7.12 that did not occur in 7.11 I'd be
cautious with 7.12 (especially if my application was in 4GL).
Problem #1: Dates begin messed up:
UPDATE table SET field=TODAY WHERE field2=constant
can produce dates of 12/31/1899 in the table. Informix reproduced
this bug using my test case. Only reproducable in 4GL. Failed on
HP and AIX platforms. There's no pattern to the failure.
Problem #2: Distributions being lost. 7.12 seems to forget the data
distribution information. A query is running very slow, set explain shows
it doing a sequential scan.
Run UPDATE STATISTICS MEDIUM FOR TABLE tabname DISTRIBUTIONS ONLY.
It changes the query so it runs an index scan. If I wait a short
period, it'll revert back to a sequential scan again. Reported this
to Informix, waiting......
Problem #3: A 4GL report program is returning a varying amount of
rows from a select statement (the table is not changing). I've not
explored this much but I think 7.11 will fix it. The data cursor
is not returning a consistent amount of data between each run.
