What are the logs used for in a no logging database? For example, if I } > update every row in a table with 10 million rows with a single update } > statement and I interrupted it half way through would the first 5 million } > updates be rolled back? Would it use the logs for this purpose? } } There is no way of doing any rollbacks at all without logs. That is one of } the things the logs are used for. Your 5 million records would be permanently } updated. } } I have been told by Informix that the logs are used even in a no logging } database when new extents are allocated to a table. I once got an error } about full logs when I did an insert into tab2 select * from tab1 and had } forgotten to set the first extent properly on tab2 first.
