Why cant you use Perl ? Its easy to install on Linux and DBD::Informix is
too if you have a working setup in the first place. Infact I would be
surprised if Perl isnt already installed on the system. If for some
peculiar reason you cant install any new modules then you can still use
Perl to manipulate the output from dbaccess.

I've worked places where reports were generated using dbaccess and AWK for
instance - I would rather not have to do that but its not difficult.
Of course 4GL *is* available for Linux and so is ISQL which gives you the
ACE report thingy.
I guess I am having difficulty understanding the constraints you are
facing.
