It's a library of C functions you can call from your C programs or any other language that can call C functions. If you want to access the SE database at the same time and you use C you also need ESQL/C or optionally the new Informix CLI product. It should also be possible to use Informix 4GL and call the C-ISAM functions via wrapper rutines written in C. In that case you don't need ESQL/C or Informix CLI. As you apperantly are able to read the files using Informix SE why don't you link the files instead of copying them. If you link them (or makes your SE database point directly to the original C-ISAM files) you can read data at any time using any tool that can access an SE database. You don't ever need to copy the files. You should be aware that there has been some mention of problems related to locking if you update the files both via C-ISAM and SE. If my memory serves me right there is no problem as long as you only read the data in the C-ISAM files from SE, but you should check this.
