If there was an error in my original posting I must apologise. The problem occurred on SCO 3.2.4, Informix 5.0 Rapid 4.1 We only use the WHENEVER ERROR CONTINUE statement to ignore the failure of the DROP TABLE statement the first time the function is called. I often use this technique to ensure the table is freshly created. There is a clear bug in the engine in that within a transaction the temp table is not being recreated properly. If the temp table is replaced with a real table, or the transaction is committed before the second set of statements, everything is fine. We appreciate your response. Neil @ storm.aztec.co.za
