GLS and dictionary collation order
Posted in 2000
Hello, With the default GLS locale setting of en_us.8859-1, sorting of an "nchar" column is always done in the "code-set order". What if I want the column values to be sorted in the "dictionary order"? How do I set the locale? I see that with other English locales (uk, au, etc) we can get a "dictionary order" for the nchar columns. There is a "0333dict.lco" file for the en_us locale in the Informix gls directory, but I have not found a way to set the locale environment variables to read that file. It's the "0333.lco" that is always being read in the "en_us.8859-1" locale setting. I've found there is a workaround to this. Copy the "0333dict.lco" to "0333.lco", export the db, bounce the server and import the db. And I do get a dictionary ordering for the nchar columns. But I don't particularly like this solution because all the db's on the server instance need to be exported/imported. Not only that, all the server instances on the same Unix machine need to be given the same treatment. Has anyone found a better solution? The easiest would be to have a locale setting variable which directly reads the "0333dict.lco" file. Thanks. Alanoly Andrews. Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.
