Informix Warehouse Installation Issue
Posted in 2009
A user installing the IBM Informix Warehouse Feature Client V11.50 on Windows XP hit "missing -Dprofile option" / "invalid profile directory" errors. Respondents explained that -Dprofile must point to the separate activation/XML-profile zip (e.g. C1YF5EN.zip), downloaded from Passport Advantage, or to its unzipped directory. That got the installer running, but the install finished with non-fatal errors ("Unable to locate ASCII text file", shortcut with no target) and an empty ds directory, so Design Studio never appeared. Advice was to check the WHinstall logs, reinstall, or contact Tech Support; no resolution of the remaining errors is recorded.

Hi, I am installing "IBM Informix Warehouse Feature Client V11.50" at my machine, but am getting "missing -Dprofile option" error. In another scenario, i am getting "Invalid profile directory" error, when i run through the command prompt while giving value for -Dprofile. http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/idshelp/v115/index.jsp?topic=/com.ibm.d we.install.doc/installing_wizards.html Can anybody tell me what is the "profile path". Is there any other settings that i need to take care of? Thanks
Hi While installing the warehouse client you need the profile.zip file also. Just look for profile.zip file at the location from where you got the warehouse client. You can unzip this profile.zip file and point the DPROFILE to it or can use -DPROFILE="C:/path/profile.zip to install it. Hi, I could not find Profile.zip as i downloaded the zip file, that contained the complete software and there is'nt anything with the name "Profile.zip" neither in the folder of the software nor in the web-site. Can u provide me some other reference from where i can get the file ? Thanks
Hi Please check for the activation/quick start contents. This zip file you need to pass as the profile. I see them on this : http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=3058&uid=swg24021620 Please let me know the location from where you have downloaded the product. Hi, In this edition of the Informix Warehouse Feature, both client and server components need to be installed passing the -Dprofile option. The value we need to pass is either: - the path to the zip file to the activation-and-xml-profile info for the eclipse client and/or the java app server or - the path to the directory with the uncompressed zip file with the activation-and-xml-profile info This zip file is a 0.5 MB file that you download from the Passport Advantage (PPA) site where you find the rest of the software too, and it is normally called "Informix Warehouse Feature <version> Activation Multiplatform ...". Let's say that you download this activation component, and the file is named: C1YF5EN.zip, then you can either use: -Dprofile=<path to C1YF5EN.zip file>, which is easier, or -Dprofile=<path to the uncompressed directory for C1YF5EN>, as shown in example below: Change directory to where the IW client is located: cd C:\\\\software\\\\informix-warehouse\\\\client\\\\windows\\\\C1YF2EN Then, run the installer, assuming we've uncompressed C1YF5EN.zip under the directory C:\\\\software\\\\informix-warehouse\\\\activation-cd\\\\C1YF5EN: install.exe -Dprofile="C:\\\\software\\\\informix-warehouse\\\\activation-cd\\\\C1YF5EN" Hope it helps. Hi, I have downloaded the product having PartNo is CZ2NBEN, and the reference you sent have a different Part No. The partNo that your reference is not available from where i have downloaded the product. I manage to install the product now by giving reference to "C1YF5EN.zip" file (that i downloaded from IBM site). But after installation, there is'nt any link inside IBM Informix Warehouse Feature, maybe the installation does'nt completed succesfully. In the log file, non-fatal errors are there but not seems to be critical. Thanks for your time. Regards
Hi, Yes, the part numbers may be different, so the filenames. The idea was to provide a common description for the activation-and-xml-profile file in the software directory, to be able to find it, and an example on how to use this zip file with the installer's -Dprofile option. To launch Informix Warehouse Feature client (the Design Studio) on a Unix/Linux, or when creating a shortcut to the tool, you can invoke the 'eclipse' command, under Design Studio dir. Example: /opt/IBM/ISWarehouse/ds/eclipse where /opt/IBM/ISWarehouse/ds is the target install directory for the Informix Warehouse Feature client (the design studio). I think right now the installer on Linux does not create a menu option under the applications, for Design Studio, so creating a shortcut will be the best to keep the tool at hand. Hope it helps, thanks! Hi, I am using Windows XP. What i wanted to tell is that there i cant find anything inside ds folder. There are only 2 xml files there. Is there any other issue that i need to resolve in order to install the product successfully. "C:\\\\Program Files\\\\IBM\\\\ISWarehouse\\\\ds" Thanks
I believe the same, that the IW installation was not successful. On Windows XP, the installer of the Informix Warehouse Feature client should have created a Program Group for "Informix Warehouse Feature" and inside the launcher for Design Studio, which invokes: "C:\\\\Program Files\\\\IBM\\\\ISWarehouse\\\\ds\\\\eclipse.exe" (given the install dir of IW was the default for Windows). So, maybe you want to verify the first error reported in the installer's log files, see how to fix it, and then do an uninstall and/or install again. The installation process is documented here: Downloading IBM Informix Warehouse V11.50 http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=3058&uid=swg24021620 Installing Informix Warehouse http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/idshelp/v115/topic/com.ibm.dwe.install. doc/install_intro.html The corresponding installation log file "WHinstall_summary_xxxxxxxxxx.log" under "C:\\\\Program Files\\\\IBM\\\\ISWarehouse\\\\logs" should report no errors, like: -------- Installation: Successful. 61 Successes 0 Warnings 0 NonFatalErrors 0 FatalErrors -------- Hope the first errors reported in both the summary and details WHinstall logs help find the cause of the installation problem.
