Different instances with markedly different times

11.5 FC6 on RHEL 5.3 We kicked this around at IIUG and neither Jonathan Leffler, Guy Bowerman nor Spokey Wheeler could think of a solution, so there likely isn't one! Our customer has 5 or 6 instances on a Linux server. They want to be able to set the system date and clock forward for one instance only to, say, 14th May at 0400, without affceting the others, so a SELECT CURRENT will return that time on that instance only. The system clock must remain accurate though. TZ can't be used to set the clock more than 12 hours out in either direction, certainly not to span many days, so I don't see how we can do it without moving the instance to its own server or VM. Apparently it's easy in Oracle, as I've been told 20 times now ... ;-) Any ideas? Thanks N
I have two useless ideas: 1- Overload the OS function that IDS uses (is it gettimeofday()?) and give it some "intelligence" 2- Convince IDS development to use an internal time keeper instead of relying on the OS to do it (this is probable what Oracle does?)
