FYI: Uninstall IDSPE, keep ROM - NOT
Posted in 1998
Hi Family. Last week I posted a request for URL pointing me back to the download for Relational Object Manager (ROM). My concern was that uninstalling Informix Dynamic Server Personal Edition (IDSPE) would also remove ROM. Those using it may have found that an older version (1.0) of ROM gets installed with IDSPE. I was using 2.1 of ROM. Fortunately, I got the name of the download file from a netfriend (moral equivalent of a drinking buddy? ;-) and realized I had it all along but had forgotten the name of the install file. OK, I uninstalled IDSPE. No, it did not completely uninstall my ROM. No, it merely removed all DLLs needed by IDSPE, blissfully ignorant of the fact that ROM also uses some of these DLLs. This rendered my old install of ROM quite useless. Yes, my caution was not mere paranoia. I went through a complete uninstall of ROM and a new install thereof. Yes, it was a gluteal pain setting up the host & server lists, as well as recalling to go back to \\windows\\services to add back the service ports for some of the various informix servers in my network. But I'm back in business with ROM. Thanks to Steve B for helping me save lots of time. -- -- Jake (Even paranoiacs have enemies) +------------------------------------------------------------+ | The expedient performance of a task with excessive concern | | regarding its duration-to-completion engenders a virtual | | certainty of diminished benefit therefrom. | | -- Benjamin Franklin (but he said it in 3 words) | +------------------------------------------------------------+
