However, the nature of the query, its filters, the data distribution, and physical locality CAN affect how fast the engine is able to return rows during an indexes search. During a sequential scan the data rate is normally steady as it is after the wait for sorting in an ORDERED query that requires a physical sort. Art S. Kagel
