Folks, Does anyone know whether a chunk could be renamed by editing the reserved pages (where primary chunk and secondary chunk info is) as well as slot 5 of the partition pages for both the tablespace tablespace and the database tablespace ? Am I missing other references? Would it or should it work? DG
What do mean rename chunks? Do you want a new path for a chunk? The supported way of doing this would be to empty the chunk and then drop it and create a new chunk. Any other way could be dangerous leading to some corrupted chunk information. I have done such editing in a not-so-elegant way. I used a binary editor to change all my chunk names without regard to where they were in the rootdbs. I did this with the DB down, of course, and with a good backup just before I started. Had to edit the mirror of the rootdbs, too. It looks like a page or two before the rootdbs and its mirror have to be edited, too. (Must be some reserved pages or my binary editor page numbering may be off since it is home-grown, after all.) By the way, it worked. I changed all my /informix/DB1/... to /informix/DB2/... without error. I didn't change the length of any paths, though.
