I am trying to run the command
dbschema -ss -d exceldma schema.out
so I can send it to someone helping me tune our Informix 7.30.UC8
engine. Below is the command and the error.
/mnt2/unload Prod >> dbschema -ss -d exceldma schema.out
DBSCHEMA Schema Utility INFORMIX-SQL Version 7.30.UC8
Copyright (C) Informix Software, Inc., 1984-1998
Software Serial Number AAC#J734537
-252 - Cannot get system information for table.
-113 - ISAM error: the file is locked.
/mnt2/unload Prod >>
Could it be this is happening just because users are on the system
working? or do I have another problem?

No just because there are users querying the table. That is one main
reason for my dbschema replacement utility, myschema, available from the
IIUG Software Repository in the package utils2_ak. Get it, unpack the
shar and the ar archive containing the myschema source, compile it with
C4GL or ESQL-C/SDK, run it and smile. Myschema takes no locks so it will
not block or crash as dbschema will and it has MANY MANY features dbschema
does not have and only misses one thing dbschema does have (-hd<tabname>)
because I haven't had time to decode sysdistrib yet.
